84% Shiraz & 16% Mourvèdre
Winery notes (2014 Vintage)
"Daly Road Shiraz Mourvèdre is a wine which combines two classic Barossa varieties of Shiraz (84%) and Mourvèdre (16%), to produce a silky smooth intriguing blend. The wine batches of Shiraz and Mourvèdre were carefully chosen by the winemakers for their silky smooth tannins, varietal characteristics and balance. The different grape varieties were fermented separately, followed by a short maceration on skins for 4 to 5 days. Once complete the wine was matured for 16 months in a combination of French, Hungarian and American oak hogsheds that were predominantly between 3 and 4 years old so that the fruit characteristics were preserved.

Deep purple with garnet hues this wine is intensely perfumed with wildberry fruits, blood plums, sweet and earthy spices and heady violet and cherry-blossom florals to create an intoxicating bouquet. The palate is slick and spicy with fresh blueberries and blackberries, Blackforest cake with cherry compote, cinnamon, sandalwood, french vanilla and couverture chocolate. The palate is rich yet silky-soft with supple tannins, incredible balance and generous length of flavour. The soft, silky texture of the palate and symphony of decadent flavours combine to create a wine of both richness and finesse that drinks beautifully while youthful and vibrant, but will also delight as it ages and develops a more savoury complexity over the next 5-10 years."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, January 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"The wine shows lovely perfumed aromas of blackberry, raspberry coulis, mint chocolate and cedar on the nose, followed by a juicy palate that is flavoursome and velvety. A wonderful blend of rich shiraz (84%) and savoury mourvedre (16%), this is super smooth and immensely likable. At its best: now to 2020."
5 Stars & 18.5-/20 Raymond Chan, January 2017 (2014 Vintage)
"Dark, deep, ruby-red colour with black hues, a little lighter on the rim. The nose is finely concentrated with a firm core of ripe blackberry fruit melded with black minerals, unfolding layers of spice and earth, with liquorice elements. Subtle nutty and toasty oak notes emerge with aeration. Medium-full-bodied, the palate is well-proportioned with a concentrated core of ripe black fruits with notes of dark-red berry fruits, entwined with earth, liquorices, spices and minerals. The mouthfeel is firm at the heart, with fine-grained tannin extraction providing positive structure and linearity. The flavours lead to a sustained and packed finish of black fruits, earth, minerals and toast. This is a firmly concentrated Shiraz/Mourvedre blend with ripe black fruits along with liquorice, mineral and toasty notes. Match with roasted and grilled lamb, beef and venison, and semi-hard cheeses over the next 8-10 years. A blend of 84% Shiraz and 16% Mourvedre from the ‘Daly Road’ vineyard near Lyndoch, fermented to 14.5% alc., the wine aged 16 months in seasoned French, Hungarian and American oak hogsheads."
