Trophy for Champion Pinot Gris - Royal Easter Wine Show Awards 2018
Gold Medal - Royal Easter Wine Show Awards 2018

Very modestly priced and obviously very good this would have to take (along with the Pinot Gris Trophy) the cake for outstanding value amongst all the Gold Medal and Trophy winners at the Easter Show, or in general for that matter. For an obviously commercial release this has surprising concentration of flavours and beautiful balance. An absolute bargain!
Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"The saying by Aristotle ‘the whole is greater than the sum of its parts’ is the perfect descriptor for our Giesen Estate Pinot Gris.

We select fruit from vineyards in the Marlborough, Waipara and Hawke’s Bay wine regions. Fruit from Marlborough adds acidity to the wine, Hawke’s Bay gives stone fruit flavours, Waipara delivers beautiful aromatics, blossom.

This Pinot Gris entices you with fresh pear, peach, nuances of almond meal. Rich fruit with a touch of creaminess and subtle spice leads into a lively, off-dry finish."

88/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2018 (2017 Vintage)
"Fragrant, ripe and very fruity with aromas and flavours of sweet bosc pear, yellow apple and quince, some floral moments and gentle white spice layer. Just off-dry with some residual sweetness, a core of fruit driving the palate, contrasting acidity and flavours reflective of the nose. Balanced and well-made. drink now and through 2020."
