Elephant Hill are well and truly establishing themselves as one of the star wineries in the Hawkes Bay gaining recognition and accolades for many of their wines. The Elephant Hill Chardonnay 2015 is outstanding, showing fantastic presence, length, balance and texture. It has a fruit purity at its core but it is very much a multi layers Chardonnay with well judged savoury elements.

"This is elegant and beautifully styled, displaying white nectarine, rockmelon and lemon peel characters with hints of vanilla and hazelnuts on the nose. The palate is focused and finely textured, and delivers excellent fruit purity and rounded mouthfeel, wonderfully framed by well-integrated acidity. "Bright straw-yellow colour with slight green-gold hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is softly concentrated and fine in proportion with deep aromas of ripe citrus and yellow stonefruits harmoniously melded with subtle creamy and nutty barrel-ferment notes, revealing some toastiness, unfolding complexing layers of steely flinty lee and refreshing mineral elements. Medium-full bodied, the palate features a firm and tightly concentrated core of vibrant citrus and yellow stonefruits along with spicy and nutty oak layers, with complexing nuances of flint and minerals. The mouthfeel is brisk, lively and steely with refreshing acidity, and the wine follows a very fine-textured line, leading to a sustained finish of stonefruits, nuts, and spicy and toasty oak. This is a firm, fresh and crisp Chardonnay with well-concentrated flavours of citrus and stonefruits, along with spicy oak and flinty minerals. Serve with grilled seafood and poultry dishes over the next 4+ years. Hand-picked fruit from the company’s Te Awanga vineyard, WBP and indigenous yeast barrel-fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged 11 months on lees in 25% new French oak barriques, with no MLF."
