The popularity of this wine seems to never wane and this recently released 2021 continues the same consistent good quality and value that made it so popular in the first place. El Burro (The Donkey) is a big and ripe wine filled with rich fruit flavours and a nice warm spicy character. A little time in American oak adds a vanilla smoothness and a toasty, spicy touch to the vibrant, dark berry and chocolate flavours. Made by the flying Scotsman of winemakers, Norell Robertson MW from old, dry grown bush vine Garnacha (Grenache) grown in the Navarra region of North East Spain.
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, November 2023 (2021 Vintage)
"Splendidly ripe and instantly appealing, the wine shows sweet plum, dark cherry, thyme, nutmeg and floral aromas on the nose, followed by a fruit-forward palate that's juicy and supple, finishing lingering and silky. Offering terrific value, it's succulent and delightfully drinkable. At its best: now to 2026."
90/100 Cameron Douglas MS, March 2024 (2021 Vintage)
"Youthful and vibrant bouquet with core aromas and flavours of red plums and cherry, a mix of earth and wood spices, cinnamon and baking spice highlights. Firm, crisp and dry with moderate tannins impact and plenty of acidity adding power and grip. Palate flavours are persistent with a chalky texture and moderate finish. Well made, dry and ready to drink from 2024 through 2029. Food recommended."
