Winery notes (2017 Vintage)
"Our version of the classic aromatic Marlborough style of Sauvignon Blanc. Grapes are hand-picked from eight of our own vineyards within the Wairau Valley. Cropped at an average of 7.5 tonnes/hectare (50hl/ha). The fruit is whole bunch pressed, cold settled before fermentation and 2-3 months aging in stainless steel tanks. A portion of this wine is fermented using indigenous yeast. Bottled without fining.
A vibrant, perfumed Sauvignon Blanc characterised by freshly squeezed citrus and dried herbs. The wines juicy palate and fresh acidity upfront is followed by a soft, round texture."
94/100 Bob Campbell MW (2017 Vintage)
"Bright, fresh and reasonably concentrated sauvignon blanc with capsicum, lemongrass, gooseberry, wet stone, mineral and subtle tropical fruit flavours. Impressive purity and length, this high energy wine could develop well in bottle. Drink 2017 to 2021."
5 Stars & 18.5+/20 Raymond Chan, October 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"Brilliant, very pale straw-yellow colour with slight green hues, lighter on the rim. The nose is very fresh with intense, penetrating aromas of gooseberries, greengages and green stonefruits, entwined with dark herbs, unfolding white and yellow floral notes and subtle, complexing mineral elements. Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate possesses sweet and luscious flavours of gooseberries, nectarines and green stonefruits with fresh herbs and suggestions of thirst-quenching minerals. The mouthfeel is brisk with crisp acidity, and the palate flows along a soft and very fine-textured line with excellent underlying energy and vitality. The wine carries to an elegant, lingering finish of stonefruits, gooseberries and herbs. This is an elegant and intensely concentrated luscious green stonefruited Sauvignon Blanc with a brisk palate and soft, fine-textured linearity. Match with seafood and Pacific Rim fare over the next 2 years. Hand-picked fruit from estate vineyards, WBP and partially indigenous yeast fermented to 12.5% alc. and 3.8 g/L RS, the wine aged 2-3 months in tank. Certified BioGro organic."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2017 Vintage)
"This wine offers a clear style contrast to Section 94, Dog Point's complex, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc (see the Branded and Other White Wines section). Hand-harvested at several sites in the Wairau Valley, it is lees-aged in tanks but handled without oak. The 2017 vintage is ripely scented, with slightly 'funky' aromas. Light lemon/green, it is a medium-bodied, vigorous wine, vibrantly fruity and tightly structured, with strong, crisp melon/lime flavours, a hint of passionfruit, a distinct touch of complexity and a dry, tangy finish. Best drinking mid-2018+. Certified organic."
93/100 Cameron Douglas (2017 Vintage)
"Very enticing and fragrant bouquet with scents of white rose, white spice and wet pebbles with a flinty/organic layer. Grapefruit, lemon and apple emerge next. On the palate – palate grabbing youth with plenty of acidity and flavour – citrus, flowers, flint and white spice. A great example of SB with a few twists and turns ending in a lengthy finish. Drink now though best from 2018 through 2026."
Yvonne Lorkin, November 2017 (2017 Vintage)
"Not a fan of masses of squinty acidity in your sauvignon? Then fret no longer, this will keep you safe and sound. Mellow in the mid palate, edged with soft passionfruit, lemongrass and limey notes, it’s got summer florals on the nose and a feisty finish."
