4 1/2 Stars Yvonne Lorkin, April 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"This new vintage of what’s become an Antipodean icon, has all the hallmarks of becoming another stunner. I say ‘becoming’ because despite this wine already boasting punchy basil, sweet pea, passionfruit and crunchy-fresh citrus and floral characters – I personally really love drinking this wine in the height of summer, a few months on from release when that mouthfeel becomes even more intensely juicy and the finish lingers long. Lovely stuff."
5 Stars Michael Cooper (2016 Vintage)
"New Zealand's most internationally acclaimed wine is sought after from Sydney to New York and London. Its irresistibly aromatic and zesty style and intense flavours stem from 'the fruit characters that are in the grapes when they arrive at the winery'. It is sourced from company-owned and several long-term contract growers' vineyards in the Rapaura, Fairhall, Renwick and Brancott districts of the Wairau Valley, Marlborough. The juice is mostly cool-fermented with cultured and indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks and aged on its yeast lees, and a small percentage of the blend (3 per cent in 2016) is fermented at warmer temperatures in old French oak barriques and large oak vats. The 2016 vintage is delicious from the start. Bright, light lemon/green, it is weighty, with mouthfilling body (13.5 per cent alcohol) and concentrated, ripe tropical-fruit flavours, showing a distinct touch of biscuity, oak-derived complexity. A sophisticated wine, rich, lively and long, it should break into full stride mid-2017+."
91/100 Mike Bennie, The Wine Front (2016 Vintage)
"It’s a very nice sauvignon blanc. It’s gooseberry and peas and citrus and a whiff of passionfruit in bouquet. It’s light and fresh-feeling and crisp and tropical fruits-meet-lime-meet-grassiness to taste. It’s compact, mouthwatering, a touch watery in texture, even just a little dilute in flavour, though a fine spritz of tangy acidity keeps the pace and it’s still notably Marlborough + Sauvignon Blanc + some pedigree. It ticks boxes. It paints between the lines."
