We were impressed by this wine back in February 2018 when we had James Dicey here to present his family's Ceres wines at one of our weekly tastings and it's great to see it recognised by the both the Cuisine tasting panel and more recently awards best in show at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2018, A fantastic achievement!

Ceres’ is the Central Otago brand of the Dicey family. Father Robin and sons James and Matt have had an integral involvement in many aspects of Central Otago wine since the early 1990's. The family were founding partners in Mt Difficulty with Matt being the winemaker since its inception in 1996. They know their stuff!
Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"The nose is soft and full with harmoniously concentrated aromas of ripe, dark red berry fruits melded with dark plum notes, liquorice and earth, and nuances of spice and thyme herbs. Medium-full bodied, the palate features soft, sweet and plush, ripe dark red berry and plum fruit flavour intermixed with thyme herbs, liquorice earth and undergrowth detail. The fruit lusciousness is supported and balanced by fine-grained tannin extraction providing good structure and mouthfeel. Integrated acidity enlivens the drive and the wine flows to a long and sustained finish with juicy fruit and a fine-texture. This is a soft, plush and juicy Pinot Noir with dark berry, plum and thyme herb flavours, and a fine-textured mouthfeel. Match with roasted game meats and semi-hard cheeses over the next 5-6 years'

"Deep yet clear garnet-red in colour. Juicy, spicy, forthright plum and pomegranate fruits with some added floral intrigue, too: complex and commanding. Ample rounded, bright fruits on the palate, the plum and pomegranate now sweetened by a little cherry and strawberry. The oak is submissive, as are the soft tannins, allowing the fruit to sing out with full Central Otago force. 2019-2026."

"Matt Dicey has crafted a splendid pinot. It exudes a perfume evocative of dark roses and violets, which leads to a deep, still pool of superb fruit. It offers layers of flavour, vibrancy and completeness. The panel was unanimously impressed. "The lines are wonderfully elegant and long,' noted John Belsham."

"The highly attractive 2015 vintage was grown in the neighbouring Inlet (70 per cent) and Black Rabbit (30 per cent) vineyards, and matured for a year in French oak casks (28 per cent new). Bright ruby, it is fragrant, mouthfilling, sweet-fruited and savoury, with generous, youthful plum/spice flavours, showing excellent complexity, good tannin backbone and a rich, well-rounded finish. A very ageworthy red, it should be at its best 2019+."

"A moderately translucent purple violet. Fragrantly scented with cherry, plum and sweet herb notations. Bright and intense in the silky-textured palate where bittersweet red fruit, oak, spice and savoury notes combine in harmony. Dense and concentrated with a vinous sweetness and touches of anise infusing the persistent finish where the tannins become more noticeable."
