Winery notes (2015 Vintage)
"A dark garnet, almost brooding Vermillion red color is striking in the glass, much richer and deeper than previous vintages. Aromas of red fruits dominate, showing pomegranate, cherry and boysenberry, accented by white pepper and cedary oak spice. Flavours bring a smile, truly ‘Zinny’ led by raspberry and loganberry nicely presented with allspice and classic Zinfandel spice character. This wine is almost plush, round and coating, with fine grain tannins and a decidedly long finish, suggesting the potential for aging with further complexities and nuances yet to be revealed."
5 Stars & 94/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, April 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"An impressively composed zinfandel, the complex bouquet show dark fruit, cedar, smoked bacon, mocha and vanilla characters. The palate is equally satisfying with plush texture and excellent mid palate weight, wonderfully framed by silky tannins. It is opulent and flavoursome, without being heavy, and finishes superbly long and velvety. At its best: now to 2020."
88/100 Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate, December 2016 (2015 Vintage)
"The 2015 Zinfandel Mendocino is 77% Zinfandel, 19% Petite Sirah and 4% Malbec, which is an attractive blend that seems to work well with the Petite Sirah bulking up the Zinfandel and the Malbec giving more aromatics. This is a big, spicy, meaty, peppery wine with loads of fruit, medium body and a heady finish. It is meant to be drunk in its first few years of life and it's a good value."
88/100 Wine Spectator, June 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Offers expressive black cherry and licorice aromas, with zesty, easygoing dark plum and pepper flavours. Drink now through 2022."
4 Stars & 17.5/20 Raymond Chan, May 2017 (2015 Vintage)
"Very full, dark, black-hued purple-red colour, a little lighter on the edge, and youthful in appearance. The nose is softly full with up-front, easy and accessible aromas of ripe blackberries, boysenberries and dark raspberries. This highlight ripeness, accessibility and opens in volume with aeration. Full-bodied, the palate has bold and accessible, sweetly luscious and juicy flavours of raspberries and blackberries, along with boysenberry notes. The palate has fresh acidity lending vibrancy, and some alcoholic power adds drive and warmth to the palate. This builds in depth, forming a positive core, with balanced, grainy tannin extraction that carries the wine to a moderately long finish. This is an up-front, accessibly juicy Zinfandel with raspberry and black fruit flavours on a vibrant palate with alcohol heat and drive and plenty of grip at the core. Match with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern lamb dishes over the next 4 years. A blend of 80% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah and 5% Carignan from the Ukiah Valley, fermented to 14.7% alc., the wine aged predominantly in French oak."
