Winery notes (2013 Vintage)
"This elegant wine is deeply coloured with aromas of black cherry, violet, spice and hints of smokey char. The palate is inviting with sweet, opulent black cherry, dark plum and a touch of leather and spice. A medium-bodied, complex Pinot Noir, with silky tannins and a long, generous finish."
5 Stars & 93/100 Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2016 (2013 Vintage)
"A beautifully composed pinot, the elegantly fragrant bouquet shows dark cherry, plum, floral and cedar characters with a touch of spice complexity. The palate is concentrated and rounded, and displays silky texture and fine, polished tannins. The wine is refined and flavoursome at the same time, and offers gorgeous drinking. At its best: now to 2019."
4 Stars Cuisine Pinot Noir Tasting, April 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"Grown at a favoured site in Queensberry on the Wanaka Road, this 2013 is holding beautifully. A big, generous serving of ripe dark fruit sits at the wine’s centre, almost as dense and fresh as when it was bottled. The tannins are powerful yet unobtrusive. “Lovely concentration and presence,” noted John Belsham."
4 Stars Michael Cooper (2013 Vintage)
"This single-vineyard red is grown at Queensberry, half-way between Cromwell and Wanaka, and matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (partly new). The 2013 vintage is full-coloured and fruit-packed, with strong, vibrant plum and spice flavours, gently seasoned with oak, youthful vigour, and obvious potential; open 2017+."
4 Stars & 18.0/20 Raymond Chan, June 2017 (2013 Vintage)
"Dark, even ruby-red colour, a little lighter on the rim. This has an elegantly concentrated nose with a fine, firm v=core of dark=red berry and cherry fruit, and dark red florals, melded with notes of thyme herbs, the aromatics building in intensity with aeration. Medium-full bodied, the palate is fine in proportion with a firm and concentrated heart of dark-red cherry and berry fruit harmoniously entwined with dark herb and floral elements, along with hints of spices. The fruit is balanced by fine-grained tannin extraction lending a refined structure, and the acidity is integrated, lending gentle energy. The wine carries to an elegant, lingering finish. This is a finely concentrated Pinot Noir with dark cherry and berry fruit along with floral and herbal notes. Match with poultry nd pork over the next 4-5 years. Clones 5, 777, 113, 115 and Abel, hand-picked and destemmed, and fermented to 14.0% alc., the wine aged 10 months in 29% new French oak barriques. 1,700 cases made."
Sue Courtney, wineoftheweek.com, February 2018 (2013 Vintage)
"This has a saturated dark ruby / crimson tinged hue. There's a hint of mocha infusing the opulent bottled black cherry bouquet together with a touch of tar and char and it’s earthy and savoury to the taste with firm tannins, sappy oak and spicy notes and the sought after 'peacock tail flare’ on the finish where creamy chocolate and black forest cherry emerge. An oaky sumptuous mouthfilling pinot that leaves a great deal of satisfaction."
